Just a quick update, the final check was signed and mailed to Dan & family this week, and I received this update from Dan's mom Amy regarding how the funds will be used this morning. Just wanted to share!

"The money will be used exclusively to fund the Hyperbaric treatments that insurance will not cover. The intent is to help his short term memory so he can learn some job skills or eventually return to school in some capacity."

Hi friends & business owners/donators,

I know this is a bit overdue but things have been kind of hectic for me since the auction! First of all I just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who supported the auction, whether that be by purchasing something, donating something, or simply showing up, I appreciate everything you did!

We had a great turn out at the auction. People started showing up around 6:00 or so, and we ran the auction til right after 7:00. Huge thanks to Tyson Vandenbroucke for playing the ENTIRE hour, ouch hands! Regardless of the pain, he sounded great! We called last bid at 7:00 or so, and announced who won what for the next half hour. People hung around and chatted for a while and we were all broken down & finished by 8:30. Big thanks to The Summit owners (John & Matt) for all of their help and generosity. The space worked great & looked great too!

It was awesome for Dan to be able to have a night that was all about him - even if he wasn't quite sure what it was for! Everybody was asked to wear name tags so Dan wouldn't have to ask people who they were, and that worked wonderfully. Dan showed up with his whole family, which was awesome! Many friends and family were there to support, and as a whole it was an awesome evening for Dan & everyone involved!

As far as fund raising efforts go, I'm pleased to announce that we raised a total of $2,165.00
for the Price family, and I'll be writing the check in the next week.

Thanks again to everyone involved, I am so happy that we pulled this off together for our buddy Dan :)

Silent Auction Date & Venue Set!

Hello friends!

I am SO excited writing this update as we just set our venue and date for the auction! The guys over at The Summit Saloon @ Stage (125 NW Oregon Ave, downtown) have so generously offered us the use of their upstairs "dance floor" area for our auction, and we will be holding it there Sunday, March 14th at 6pm.

We're still looking for donations, no matter how big or small, for the auction. If you have any ideas or leads, look into them and let us know! All help is greatly appreciated :)

Silent Auction In Motion!

Hello friends, business owners, whoever may be reading this!

Today was phenomenal! Lindsey and I ran all around downtown going into local businesses and chatting with owners/employees about the silent auction. The response was overwhelmingly positive in numbers of business owners who donated to the auction or said they would donate when the dates were set for the auction. So, ladies & gentlemen, looks like we've got ourselves a silent auction to put on!

Now the challenge is this - find ways to promote the auction, and find more businesses willing to donate items to the auction. A man we ran into at Bellatazza downtown said something that stuck with me - in the wake of an economic meltdown, many people have been humbled, and are likely to have gained more empathy and desire to do something good for somebody in their community that is in need. What a great thought to have in mind while taking baby steps toward this auction!

On that note, anybody reading this that has ideas, concepts, or even concerns about the silent auction - please contact me! If you know of a business that would support our auction, talk to the owner. If you own a business and would like to support Dan's auction, please contact me (Sydney) at 541-410-6606 or simply via this blog. If you have ideas of possible auction venues, don't hesitate to share them! If you have connections in the community that could help with getting the word out about the auction, use them! The more people the word reaches the better.

Hello again! The notion of an auction has been mentioned a few times and I've tried to start the ball rolling on it. I have a few businesses that would be interested in donating to the auction when and if it is set in motion. I thought it would be a fun idea to get some local artists/aspiring artists in the community to donate a piece of their art to the auction for Dan! Fundraising Idea

Hey guys! I just printed about 200 of these fliers and left them under the doormats of all my neighbors. If any of you live in a neighborhood or apartment complex or other place you'd feel comfortable doing this, I think it could be a great way to raise some money for Dan! I'll post a link on here with my flier - feel free to use the same one but change the contact info & the pick up date.

Fundraiser for Dan Price & Family.

Hello friends! You've all been invited to this group because of your friendship or relationship with Dan & the Price family. Most of you are aware of the struggles Dan and his family faced in 2009 - wouldn't it be nice to help them start 2010 on a brighter note? On that note, wouldn't it be a fun idea to do a little fundraiser for the family, to help them out however we can regarding Dan's ordeal? If you've ever dealt with an illness or had a family member deal with an illness, you understand that hospital bills add up - and quick! The Price family's positive and enduring attitude throughout the last 10 months has been remarkable despite any setbacks they may have encountered. So out of love for them and Dan I thought it would be nice to raise some funds for them, just as an effort to show them how loved they truly are.

If you have the means to and would like to donate to the Price family, I am working on setting up an account probably at Wells Fargo - I will update on here and on the facebook group with information as soon as possible!

If anybody else would like to help me organize funds or has other ideas on how they'd like to go about doing so, please contact me! Just think - if everybody who knew the Price family donated even $10! There is power in numbers, and, of course, in LOVE!

I'll attach Dan's full story from his caring bridge website here for anybody who is not familiar with it, as well as the link to his caring bridge that Amy updates frequently with photos and updates on Dan's progress via journal entries.

Dan's Full Story from Caring Bridge:

"As you are aware Daniel moved to Portland in September to begin his new life and dreams. He was attending Portland Community College and was working at the local swim/rec center. During the first week of February Daniel, as well as most of his classmates and co-workers had a virus, a simple cold. On the week-end of February 5th, we spoke to Daniel several times. It seemed he went home from work with a fever. He said" I just can't shake this cold". On Saturday, 2/6/09 Daniel said that he had a headache, his blood sugars (from his diabetes) were a little high and his fever was 100.3. Nothing too alarming. However, he did state "Mom, something feels wrong, I'm paranoid, someone is out to get me". Weird, Huh?
On Sunday, 2/7/09 we spoke again to him several times. His temperature was normal as were his blood sugars. Just a slight headache. The last phone conversation occurred at 12:30PM. Daniel told his Dad that he felt better and was planning to go to work for 1 o'clock. That was the last time we spoke to him. Daniel never made it to work that Sunday, or class Monday or Tuesday. Friends from school and work attempted to reach him on the phone and home. But no one anticipated that he was unconscious on the floor of his apartment.
On Tuesday at 5:00 PM when Daniel did not show for work the second time, Kevin, a long time friend managed to contact us in Bend. It was at that time that we knew something terrible had happened. At 6:00PM, Kevin and the apartment manager, with police and paramedics found Daniel unconscious on the floor of his apartment. He was taken to St. Vincent's Hospital. The origional diagnoses made via CAT Scan was "stroke". This seemed highly unlikely in a healthy 20 year old. Upon further testing, MRI and culture of spinal fluid from a lumbar puncture, the correct diagnoses of Herpes Simplex Encephalitis was confirmed. The culprit was the simple virus that causes a cold sore. Probably due to Daneil's busy schedule, not so great nutrition, his recent cold, and the fact of his diabetes, his immune system was less then perfect. The virus attacked internally and spread throughout his brain.
During the first eight days of his hospitalization, his condition was life threatening. It did not seem likely that he would survive. He was placed on total life support and an emergancy surgery was done to remove part of his skull to relieve the pressure of the swelling within his brain. But through the grace of God and the power of prayer he has survived and has begun the long recovery process."
